imageSIALKOT: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday visited flood-hit villages of Zafarwal near here.

He met the affected people and assured them that the government would not leave them alone in this very hard time.

Narowal DCO Syed Najaf Iqbal, MNA Mian Rasheed Ahmed and MPAs Awais Qasim and Khawaja Waseem Akhtar were also present.

Giving berifing to the Chief Minister, Narowal DCO Syed Najaf Iqbal said as many as 25 Zafarwal villages near Sialkot were inundated due to flood in Nullah Dek as water flow reached 76,000 cusecs which breached its protective dyke and inundated 25 villages, including Ghnagor, Jeestiwala, Rehmanpur, Billa, Khaara Meega, Fasipur, Punj Graayieen, Nangali Do Aaba, Rampur, Wanjal, Rasheedpur, Purana Wahla, Mehndipur and Muslmaniyaan.

The DCO added that these villages today remained inundated and officials were busy in repairing a 35-foot wide breach in the protective dyke of Naullah Dek near Zafarwal-Sialkot.

According to an official handout issued here, Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif ordered the district administration to speed up relief and rescue activities in the flood-hit areas.

He said the government was fully aware of the problems of flood-hit people and it was making an all-out efforts to resolve problems.

He also directed the elected representatives and district administration to focus their full energies to combat with torrential rains and flash floods for providing maximum relief to the affected people.

Earlier, the chief minister reviewed in detail measures taken by the district administration to combat the ongoing torrential rains and flash floods in rivers and seasonal Naullahs.

He also sought details of losses of human and animals and properties of people in the region.
