Famous ghazal singer Habib Wali Muhammad breathed his last yesterday in Los Angeles at the age of 93.
He rose to fame with the famous ghazal of the last Mughal Enperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar, ‘Lagta Nahi Hai Dil Mera Ujray Diyaar Main’. He was trained by Ustad Latafat Ali Khan and sang various patriotic songs like ‘Sohni Dharti’, Roshan-o-Rakhsan, Nayyar-o-Tabaan Pakistan Rahay etc.
Habib Wali Muhammad was being treated for his illness in Los Angeles for the past few days.
He sang some of the beautiful ghazals in many iconic films like ‘Aaj janay ki zid na karo’ picturised on Nadeem, ‘Aashiyan jal gaya’, ‘Raatain theen chandni’ and ‘Marnen ki Duawain Kyun Mangon-Jeene ki Tamana kon Kare’ in ‘Baazi’.
According to media reports, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has expressed deep sense of sorrow and grief over the death of prominent singer Habib Wali Muhammad. In a condolence message, the Chief Minister said that late Habib Wali Muhammad had a unique place in the field of music and his services will be remembered for a long time.
