KARACHI: As many as seven infants died due to alleged negligence of private children healthcare located near Korangi Crossing on Friday.
Reliable sources said at least seven new newborns babies died in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of Shah National Hospital.
According to sources the deceased babies who were in the incubators or on ventilators, died after electricity load shedding choked the oxygen supply to them.
The administration could not arrange alternate power supply arrangements. However, Health Department Sindh confirmed the death of only four babies in the private hospital due to the alleged negligence of doctors.
All of them died due to oxygen problems caused by power failure The enraged parents staged protests following the deaths and blocked the Korangi Crossing intersection by burning tyres.
The protesters vandalized the hospital and staged sit-in with the bodies of deceased babies, demanding justice and arrest of culprits.
The hospital administration called police and rangers for security and to deal with the enraged protestors.
The police sealed off hospital on the orders of Deputy Commissioner Karachi.
The Governor Sindh, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah took notice of the incident and ordered inquiry.
Two deceased babies were identified Saima and Sana, while the identity of five others could be ascertained yet.
