imageKARACHI: Sindh Minister for Information and Local Government Sharjeel Inam Memon on Sunday defended the recent delimitation of Local government constituencies in the province and described it as in accordance with the Constitution and the law.

He maintained that Pakistan Peoples Party Government had taken into confidence all the political parties, being stakeholders in the province, including Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) during the process of delimitation.

Memon was addressing a press conference in his office to explain his party's position on this account. President PPP, Karachi Division Abdul Qadir Patel and Senator Saeed Ghani were also present.

He said PPP is the only national political party which has due representation of all the communities speaking different languages and belonging to different religions.

He said it is for the first time that the local Government elections were being held on party basis.

He maintained that due consultation was made with all the political parties including MQM, Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan Muslim League- Functional, PML-Nawaz and their recommendations were embodied in the Sindh Local Government Act 2013.

He informed that the delimitation was carried out by the Deputy Commissioners of the respective areas and the Commissioners were assigned the task of hearing the complaints/ objections filed against any delimitation which they did properly and took actions wherever required. MQM also availed the opportunity to file its objections and participated in these proceedings by the Commissioners.

The Minister said that PPP's Sindh Government would accept the verdict by the judiciary on the issue of delimitation and expected the same response from all other political parties including MQM.

He regretted that the delimitation done in the interest of people was being politicised.

He said PPP firmly believed in democracy and its doors are always open to all for dialogue.

He expressed his satisfaction that all the people of the province were living in complete harmony like brothers.

Senator Saeed Ghani said that it is MQM which has moved court of law on the delimitation issue and now it is binding on them to wait and honour/ accept the court verdict with an open heart.
