ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Communications on Friday expressed concern over appointment of Chairman National Highway Authority from outside, neglecting senior officers of the authority.
The committee meeting held here under the chairmanship of Senator Daud
Achakzai observed that it was unfortunate that a junior officer from outside NHA was appointed chairman while neglecting officers of PS 21,20 and 19 which disheartens the officers and affects the authority's performance.
The committee formed a sub-committee comprising Zahid Khan,Humayun
Mandokhail and Islamuddin Sheikh to review the appointment of new NHA
chairman, and details of deputationists and contract employees in NHA.
The meeting was attended by Minister incharge Sheikh Aftab,Senators Zahid Khan,Rozi Khan Kakar,Kamil Ali Agha,Mukhtiar Ahmed Dhamra,Yousuf Badini,Hasil Bazenjo,Humayun Mandokhail and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Hyderi.
Secretary Communications Arshad Bhatti and senior officers of NHA were also present in the meeting.Sheikh Aftab informed the committee that appointment were being made on merit and appointment of Maroof Afzal was done on the directives of the competent authority.
The committee was informed that some senior officials of NHA were offered the post of Chairman but they were not ready to take charge.
The committee was also informed that two senior officials from Balochistan would be transferred back to Islamabad and given appointments on their qualification and seniority.
