PESHAWAR: The death toll due to dengue virus has reached six in district Swat as the virus had been confirmed in more 85 persons to reach the total number of the affected patients to 2,400.

This was confirmed by spokesman Dr Wasil Khan, Saidu Sharif Hospital, while talking to media in Swat on Saturday. Chief Executive, Saidu Sharif Hospital, Dr Taj Mohammad Khan was also present on the occasion.

Replying a query, Dr Wasil Khan said that two dengue virus affected women had been died in the hospital, adding victims had been identified as Begum, wife of Farid, resident of Banrd, and Rabia, wife of Zarin, resident of Haji Baba. However, he said they were brought to hospital in critical situation, adding that four other patients were also suffering from other diseases, which resulted in their death.

He said 3,200 patients had conducted their tests in Saidu Sharif Hospital in which the virus had been confirmed in 2,400 patients. He said 1,414 patients had been admitted to the hospital, out of which 1,147 had been discharged after recovery while 233 were still under treatment. The admitted dengue-affected patients also included 16 children and 73 women, he added.

He said 73 patients were discharged, three critical cases had been shifted to Peshawar while, the treatment of three was continue in Saidu Sharif Hospital.

Chief Executive, Saidu Sharif Hospital, said dengue patients in Saidu Sharif Hospital beside treatment were also being provided nets, but on the other hand it was the responsibility of administration to carry out fumigation in the houses. He said the timing of spray should either be morning or evening to eliminate those mosquitoes.
