imageNEW YORK CITY: US stocks on Friday opened lower after disappointing earnings reports from some technology companies outweighed better results from industrial stocks.

Five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 41.12 (0.26 percent) to 15,507.42.

The broad-based S&P 500 gave up 3.61 (0.21 percent) at 1,685.76, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index dropped 25.42 (0.70 percent) to 3,585.86.

"Technology profit tallies continue to disappoint," said Wells Fargo in a market note.

Wells Fargo cited reports from tech giants Google and Microsoft that missed expectations, even as results from industrial heavyweights General Electric and Honeywell were solid.
