ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's legitimate security must be taken into account on the question of Afghanistan, United States ambassador to Pakistan, Cameron Munter, said on Friday.
"Legitimate demands of Pakistan on the Afghan question must be given due consideration", Munter said in a chat with PTV correspondent, adding that United States has great respect for Pakistan and wants to see it as a sovereign and stable state.
We are working for the stability in the region," he said."We wish to see Pakistan as a sovereign state. We are supporting both the civilian government and army in Pakistan."
About US financial support in civilian projects in Pakistan, he said that US was helping in building dams and road in this country.
Discussing situation in Afghanistan, the ambassador said that Prime Minister Gilani's recent trip to Kabul was "a good step" towards the process of restoration of peace in Afghanistan.
The ambassador said, "We are sincerely working for Pakistan's products access to western countries. He termed the Pakistani media "is functioning more freely than any other country."
