ISLAMABAD: Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Amer Ali Ahmed has said that the implementation of rate list of food items including fruits and vegetables was being ensured by magistrates who were conducting regular surprise price checking in their areas to ensure the availability of food items at the fixed rates.

He said that the administration had also taken steps to provide relief to the people living in rural areas and 'sasta bazaars' were being set up in the rural areas.

The recently established sasta bazaar at Korang Town had also started functioning and the rates of food items in the bazaar were less than the rates of weekly CDA bazaars.

A strict check on the prices of fruits and vegetables was being maintained by the administration especially providing relief to the consumers of rural areas and the availability of fruits and vegetables at the administration bazaars was being ensured at cheaper rates which were less than the rates of CDA weekly bazaars.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad told that an effective price monitoring system had been introduced in the city and smooth supply of food commodities was being ensured at the Sabzi Mandi Islamabad.

The officials of District Food Department Islamabad, on daily basis are present in Sabzi Mandi at the time of auction of food items and rates are fixed with reasonable profit margin for the retailers and wholesalers.

Timely distribution of rate list to the retailers in the markets is ensured by the officials. Each area magistrate conduct surprise price checking in his respective area to ensure that fixed rates were being implemented by the shopkeepers, he told.

During the on-going anti-profiteering drive in the city, the administration had imposed heavy fines on the profiteers amounting Rs50,000.
