LAHORE: Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Najam Sethi said on Sunday that maximum resources would be utilized to improvement of law and order and security situation for peaceful and transparent elections as it was the need of the hour.
Chairing a high level meeting regarding law and order and security at CM's Secretariat, he said effective security measures would be adopted for public meetings and rallies of political parties, adding that the government was ready to take even tough decisions for maintaining law and order.
He said responsibility given to the caretaker government would be discharged as a national obligation and every effort would be made for holding general elections in a peaceful, impartial and transparent manner.
Najam Sethi reviewed security measures in detail for conduct of general elections as well as overall law and order situation of the province.
He directed police to take all necessary steps for improving law and order, asserting that government was fully prepared to meet security challenge. He said protection of life and property of people was a responsibility of police and it should utilize all its energies and resources for curbing crime and ensuring civic peace.
He said instructions of the Election Commission for holding transparent and impartial elections should be implemented in letter and spirit, and a peaceful atmosphere was essential for the election process.
Sethi directed the authorities concerned to further improve intelligence sharing network as well as keep a watchful eye on criminals and anti-social elements.
The caretaker chief minister was given a briefing on law and order and security measures for general elections.
The secretary Home, inspector general police and senior officers were present.
