LAHORE: Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervez Elahi on Friday directed the Punjab government to take strict actions against those who were involved in publishing blasphemous material against companions and wives of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The directions were given by speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi while chairing the session of the assembly at a local hotel. It is pertinent to mention here that it is first time in the history of Punjab Assembly that session was held in a hotel. The session started one hour and twenty two minutes late.

Elahi said it was a matter of grave concern that books like The First Muslim, After the Prophet and Short History of Islam carrying blasphemous material against pious wives and companions of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) were being published in Pakistan. He directed the Punjab government to immediately ban and confiscate these books.

The Punjab Assembly unanimously passed condolence resolution for those killed in Karachi plane crash and those killed by coronavirus pandemic.

Opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz also demanded that strict action should be taken against those who were involved in publishing blasphemous material against sacred personalities.

While speaking on the floor of House, he criticized Federal Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain for giving the suggestion of holding virtual session of the parliament. He appreciated speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervez Elahi for the excellent arrangement for the session.
