senate--ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Religious Affairs Monday directed the Ministry of Religious Affairs to submit a report of actions taken against those who had caused inconvenience to the hujjaj in Hajj-2012.

The committee directed the ministry to take action within a fortnight against a private airline who had delayed its couple of post hajj flights by over 20 hours. Action has also been sought against the banks, who had delayed the processing of hajj applications.

The committee has also directed action against the hajj staff, transporters, etc against whom complaints have been received.

The meeting of the committee was chaired by Senator Muhammad Saleh Shah. Senator M Hamza, Raja Zafarul Haq of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Zahid Khan of Awami National Party (ANP) attended the meeting.

Senator Zahid Khan pointed out that no action has been taken against a private airline (Shaheen Air) for its over 20 hours flight delay.

He directed the ministry to intimate the committee before taking any action against the trouble makers of hujjaj as just intimation to the committee after taking important decision is not acceptable.

The inquiry reports must also be shared with the committee so that the committee could recommend action against the culprits.

Raja Zafarul Haq said ministry must devise a transparent system so that the trouble makers of the hujjaj could not go scot free as the punitive actions definitely help improving the hajj operation.

Joint Secretary Shahzad Ahmad said a show cause has been issued to the airline (Shaheen Air) but no punitive action has been taken against them.

Similarly some scheduled banks had processed the hajj applications of intending pilgrims late, when the due date for submitting hajj applications had passed but again no plenty was imposed on the negligent banks.

Secretary Religious Affairs Ministry Muhammad Azam Samaa said as many as 350 busses were hired for transporting the hujjaj from their residences as comparing to 250 during the Hajj 2011.

A totlal of 70 complaints have so far been received against the Private Hajj Group Organisers (HGOs) by people for negligence in hajj 2012.

As many as 85 HGOs were penalized due to negligence in Hajj 2011.
