europe-stocks 0000PARIS: Leading European stock markets surged on Thursday, after the European Central Bank announced new crisis fighting measures, with London's FTSE 100 index of top companies up 2.11 percent at close to 5,777.34 points.

In Frankfurt, the DAX 30 won 2.91 percent to 7,167.33 points, while in Paris the CAC 40 rose by 3.06 percent to 3,509.88 points.

Shares in Madrid skyrocketed 4.91 percent and Milan gained 4.31 percent.
