KARACHI: The Sindh government intends to obtain loan of Rs 21.25 from Asian Development Bank (ADB) while a competent forum has approved umbrella PC-I amounting Rs 18.53 billion for the scheme named “Sindh Emergency Reconstruction Project for Bunds and Canals”.

“The work on 64 schemes of flood protection embankments (bunds) is in progress while another 12 schemes are in process of tendering, evaluation and award”.

This was stated by Sindh Minister for Irrigation in his response to the query asked by MPA Nusrat Sehar Abbasi during the question hour.

Minister informed the house that Rs 500 million had been allocated for installation of tube wells in the province with a function to control water logging and salinity problem in the saline zone and provide additional supply to tail portions of minors where shortage of irrigation supply exists.

When asked by MPA Arif Mustafa Jatoi how could tube wells run amid prolonged power outages, the Minister responded that government was in constant touch with HESCO and other concerned officials and steps were underway to solve the electricity load shedding problems.

To a question, He denied that special report on Bund breaches in 2010 had not been made public and said the Sindh Chief Minister had made public the report through a press conference held on December 8, 2010.
