Indian Supreme Court’s senior advocate berates Modi, says his govt must go

Criticising the re-elected Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, a senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of India, Prashant Bhushan, has said that the current Indian government has destroyed all institutions whose job was to check facts.

Speaking at the Oxford Union Society, the advocate said that he had no idea where to begin to talk about the havoc that Modi's government has rocked in India. "Should I start with the economy which Modi has wrecked with his absolutely ridiculous un-thoughtout policies like demonetisation?"Bhushan said.

"All institutions whose job is to find out the facts and put them out on the table, have been under attack and destroyed by the government and then we are told to rely on propaganda. Today we are told there is no such thing as facts and that there is no such thing as reason," he said.

Taking a jibe at Modi, Bhushan added whether people should disregard reason, critical thinking, merely because they are being told to believe certain facts because of the propaganda being spread.

"Modi has reduced the media by controlling large sections of media through inducements and threats for spreading hate against Muslims and against minorities," he said. Bhushan added that if anyone says anything against Modi, he will be lynched by mobs on the streets. "If you are a Muslim you will be lynched by mobs with the police looking on," he said.

Bhushan ended his address saying that in the name of democracy, constitution, science, reason and civilization, the Modi government must go.

According to reports, the London School of Economics, one of world's prestigious institutes, cancelled their invite to Modi, where he was supposed to be awarded with an Honorary Degree. The decision had reportedly been taken after professionals heard Bhusan’s speech at the Oxford Union Society.
