Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that the federal government would not interfere in the working of the Sindh government. "The members who are sitting in the House, particularly those who belong to Sindh, should not have any concern about invocation of the Article 149(4) of the Constitution. The Sindh Assembly played an important role in the history of Pakistan. I am giving a policy statement on behalf of the government that we respect the Constitution and provincial autonomy of every province.
The federal government will not let any harm come in the way of provincial autonomy. We have no intentions to mess with your government for no reason," the foreign minister expressed these views on the floor of the National Assembly on Friday while giving assurance to opposition members, particularly those belonging to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
PPP senior parliamentarian Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, earlier while expressing serious concern on the floor of the House, said that law minister's comments regarding Article 149(4) are a conspiracy against the federation.
Shah said that the government needs to understand what Law Minister Farogh Naseem is trying to do. "Devastation will spread in Karachi with the minister's remarks," he said.
He said that the Supreme Court should take suo motu notice of the law minister's comments on the Article 149.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi urged the members of the House from Sindh not to create an impression for the world that there is "a wave of provincial discrimination" in Pakistan.
