Denouncing the Indian government's move to end special status of Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK), Emir Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman has regretted that at present Pakistani government's stance on the Indian acts is not clear. Addressing a press conference here, he said that his party will mark a day of solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday (August 9) across the country.
He said that even the government and Prime Minister Imran Khan summoned joint session of the Parliament but their actions made the joint session irrelevant. The joint sitting of the Parliament was called in the morning but PM Khan didn't bother to come in the session and the sitting was delayed for four hours.
He said that the removing of the Article 370 from Indian Constitution was a critical part of election campaign of Narendra Modi and his party, adding PM Khan during the Modi's election campaign supported him (Modi) saying if Modi wins election, it will help resolve Kashmir issue.
The JUI-F emir said that India cannot unilaterally change the status of Kashmir because it is an international dispute between two neighbouring countries and is recognised by all the global bodies including United Nations (UN). He said that people in IOK have been struggling for their right to self-determination for the past 70 years, India during these years made all possible efforts to disperse the Kashmiris' struggle but failed even by deploying almost a million troops.
"The crops commanders conference has reiterated the national stance but the sentence that the military will follow the government's policy in letter and spirit made it irrelevant as the government has no clear policy at present," he maintained.
He said that United Nations (UN) is a guarantor and is mandated to materialise all the resolutions passed by Security Council over the dispute. He said that right to self-determination is basic right of a nation and Kashmir people cannot be deprived of their right.
He said that India should resolve the dispute keeping in view the wishes and aspirations of Kashmir inhabitants and withdraw its decisions relating to Kashmir, adding the dispute should be resolved by implementing the resolutions of the Security Council.
Responding to a question, Maulana said that the government of Pakistan must release Hafiz Saeed of Jamaat-ul-Dawa (JuD), saying he has been against his arrest from the day first as he is in jail on international pressure. He stressed the need for showing unity to face all the challenges and jointly responding to Indian decision of abrogation of the Article 370.
He asked the United Nations, UN Security Council and other international organisations to play their role to stop atrocities against innocent Kashmiris. He said that the atrocities against the innocent people have reached its peak in the Occupied Kashmir, but the world community has become a silent spectator to it, which is condemnable and sorrowful. The Muslim world, he said, should play its role in the stoppage of these atrocities.
