Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, Naeemul Haque Friday said the government respects the court's decision to grant bail to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Shahbaz Sharif. Talking to media persons here, Haque said that respecting courts' decisions makes up an important pillar of democracy.
He expressed hope that the opposition leader would play a role in National Assembly for betterment of the country and its people. "We hope Shahbaz Sharif will play his due role in the [House] for the betterment of the country and its people. We want an end to personal attacks in the National Assembly, and want discipline to prevail there," he said.
The Lahore High Court on Thursday approved Shahbaz's bail petitions in the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme and Ramzan Sugar Mills cases, and ordered his release. Commenting on India blaming Pakistan for deadly attack on a convoy of Indian paramilitary personnel in Pulwama, Haque said it was nothing new for India to put the blame on Pakistan.
"A movement is being run in India ahead of elections [there] to pile up blame game on Pakistan. I [saw an interview] by [former IoK chief minister] Farooq Abdullah in which it was stated that the Indian government has hidden away six fact reports on the situation in Occupied Kashmir. The facts are being hidden," he added.
Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has already hinted at challenging the LHC verdict in the Supreme Court, saying giving bail to a person involved in mega corruption scandals would create a wrong impression among masses. "The poor are forced to spend their lives in jail and nobody cares for them but big thieves roam freely in Islamabad through production order," he told reporters. "The bail granted to Shahbaz Sharif will convey a negative message to the society." He also called on NAB to see as to why the case of those apprehended could not reach their logical conclusion. The minister said bail given to Shahbaz Sharif did not 'prove his innocence'.
