Demand of mango and banana milk shakes and watermelon, melon, peach, apple, lemon juices has increased manifold with the advent of summer season in the city.
Roadside juice stalls were also doing brisk business. A sugarcane juice vendor in Saddar told this correspondent that normally he used to sell about 50 glasses a day, but nowadays he was selling between 150 and 200 glasses daily. Almost same is the case with lemon juice. A small glass of sugarcane is being sold for Rs 10 whereas a big glass is available for Rs 15.
However, at some other places, Rs 15 were being charged for a small glass and Rs 30 for a big glass of sugarcane juice. Meanwhile, traders said that demand for powdered juices like Tang and Glucose has also shot up. Besides, different types of chilled beverages and instant ready-to-drink items are also available in tetra packs, pet bottles, small bottles and cans.
According to a trader, sales of all kinds of carbonated and non-carbonated soft drinks had increased by 50pc. Of late, demand of non-carbonated soft drinks have increased sharply, he said, adding that Coke and Pepsi are carbonated drinks, and juices and powdered drinks like Tang are non-carbonated. They said that sugar-free drinks were also in high demand. Keeping in mind consumers' requirements, manufacturers have been coming up with a wide variety of juices with no added sugar.
