All Government Employees Co-ordination Council, Khyber Pakhtunkwha on Wednesday announced to stage long march towards Islamabad to force federal government for the revision of salaries as per recommendations made by Pay Commission.
"We had waited long for the implementation of the recommendations of the commission. But, now we have no other option but to end silence as the employees of the whole country have been united on one point agenda," said Mohammad Aslam Khan, President, All Government Employees Co-ordination Council, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while addressing a press conference here at Peshawar Press Club (PPC). He was flanked by employees association of different departments.
He said that the commission was constituted by the federal government three years ago to consider the problems and demands of the government employees. The commission prepared its recommendations after hectic efforts of two years and presented it to the government on February 28, 2010. However, he said the government was not sincere with it since its inception and put it on cold storage through resorting to different tactics.
Conversely, he said the employees clarified its solid and clear stand on the government for the implementation of the recommendations that they will never accept further adhocism and government will have to go for pay revision. For this purpose, employees from all over the country under the auspices of All Government Employees Co-ordination Council staged a sit-in in Islamabad and forced the government for announcing 50 per cent interim increase in the salaries of the government employees.
In this connection, the President of All Government Employees Co-ordination Council, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said constituted another committee comprising Federal Ministers, Syed Khurshid Shah, Naveed Chaudhry, Samsam Bokhari and Ashraf Sohna, which assured the employees that government in light of the recommendations of Pay Commission will go for revision in pay and pension in October 2010 and the employees abandoned their protest campaign.
