Paramilitary troops patrolling a restive Pakistani tribal district near the Afghanistan border on Saturday escaped unhurt when a bomb planted under a small bridge exploded, an official said.
Two paramilitary vehicles on a routine patrol were crossing a small bridge near the main North Waziristan town of Miranshah when an explosion took place under it, a local administration official told AFP.
Luckily there were no casualties, but the explosion destroyed the small bridge, the official said requesting anonymity.
It was not immediately clear who had planted the bomb, but similar attacks in the past have been blamed on suspected militants linked to the remnants of the Taleban and their al Qaeda associates.
Separately, security personnel arrested a man carrying two hand grenades in the town of Razmak near a cadet college just before the arrival of provincial governor Khalilur Rehman for the parents' day ceremony held there, he said.
The official said that it was not clear whether the suspect wanted to sabotage the college ceremony or had some other motive.
