10 women and Naib Nazim elected unopposed in Hyderabad: LB bye-elections on March 28
Ten women candidates, one Naib Nazim and 5 candidates on minorities seats were elected unopposed in Hyderabad, Badin and Thatta districts of Hyderabad division in the by-elections to local bodies being held on March 28.
According to the Deputy Election Commissioner, Hyderabad division, Imran Siddiqui, after scrutiny of nominations papers for by-elections to various vacant seats in 66 union councils in Hyderabad district,19 seats in Badin and 33 in Thatta district.
In all there are 11 vacant seats for UC Nazims in three districts for which 56 nomination papers were filed. Among them 32 forms were filed for 6 vacant seats in Hyderabad district, 12 for 2 vacant seats in Badin district and 12 for 3 vacant seats in Thatta district.
There is one seat of Naib Nazim vacant in Hyderabad district for which 2 forms were received. Similarly, there was only one Naib Nazim seat in Badin district for which only one form was received which was declared unopposed.
Seven nomination forms were filed for 2 vacant seats of Naib Nazim in Thatta.
For 15 Muslim general seats in Hyderabad district 63 candidates had filed papers; in Badin district 33 forms were filed for 6 vacant seats and 32 forms filed for 7 general Muslim seats in Thatta district.
For 22 Muslim women seats 49 forms were filed in Hyderabad district; in Badin district 10 forms were filed for 6 vacant seats and 18 forms were filed for 17 vacant seats in Thatta district.
On peasnat/labourer male seats 36 forms were filed for 10 vacant seats in Hyderabad district;3 in Badin district for 2 seats and 8 for 2 seats in Thatta district.
For peasant/labourers female seats 77 nomination forms were filed in Hyderabad district;16 for 13 seats in Badin district while all 10 candidates on peasant/labourer female 10 seats were elected unopposed.
Meanwhile, 3 seats of minorities in Badin district were declared unopposed. However 22 forms were filed for 16 seats in Hyderabad district.
In Thatta district no candidate filed nomination for 12 minority seats as returning officer received only 2 forms for 14 seats. By-elections will be held on March 28, 2004.
