Staying fit and slim is the modern mantra of having a good healthy life. And people are actively monitoring the food intake and calculating the amount of calories they are taking, in order to reach their desired goals.
However, the problem is that there is a lot of conflicting information available out there; regarding the number of calories intake. And the thing is there cannot be a specific number as, we use less energy as we age, therefore needing less food.
According to Flowing Data, Nathan Yau, a statistician from UCLA analysed data from the US Department for Health and Human Services to find out accurately, how your age affects the calories you can consume for a healthy weight.
Nathan has factored in a person lifestyle, whether it is active, moderate or sedentary (inactive), and then applying the figures with age to extract results.
As per results, women having a sedentary lifestyles should target to consume 1,800 calories per day between the age of 25 and 30, which drops to 1,600 from the age of 50 and onwards. Whereas, women maintaining an active lifestyles, the calorie consumption could be as high as 2,400 per day, that are aged between 20 and 30, before dropping to 2,000 from the age of 60.
Now, coming to men, the Independent reports, men with sedentary lifestyles should aim to consume much higher calorie intake, which ranges from 2,400 calories between 25 and 30, which then drops to 2,000 from the age of 60.
And for the men with active lifestyles, well they can intake up to 3,000 a day in their twenties, before dropping to 2,600 once they reach their 60s.
