F R Kurram, one of the sub-divisions of Kurram Agency, has been renamed as Central Kurram. NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah (Retd) announced this while addressing a representative of Tribal Jirga comprising elders of the FR Kurram, here at Governor's House on Monday.
Senator Rashid Ahmad Khan, MNA Munair Khan Orakzai, NWFP Chief Secretary Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, IG Frontier Corps Major General Hamed Khan, Secretary to Governor Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad, Political Agent Tashfin Khan and Provincial Secretaries also attended the Jirga.
It merits mentioning that by calling the third sub division of the agency as Frontier Region was causing a number of anomalies and complications, therefore, it had become must to rename the area.
The governor deemed it fit to make announcement in this connection in a jirga of tribal elders after which a formal notification under his signature was also handed to the political agent of the agency Dr Tashfin Khan on the spot.
The governor, while addressing the jirga, said that by renaming F R Kurram as Central Kurram not only all complexities have been removed but with this a new era of development has been started which would directly benefit the respective tribal people.
The governor also thanked the tribal elders for their co-operation in eliminating poppy cultivation from the area.
