MULTAN: Senate Deputy Chairman Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri Tuesday asked the opposition to hold talks with the government to settle the issues pertaining to judicial commission. Talking to newsmen here at Jamia Qasimul Uloom, he criticized PTI Chairman Imran Khan for demanding Prime Minister's resignation and threats of staging sit-in at Raiwind.
Haidri said if the opposition thought that it was justified in demanding the Prime Minister to resign then everybody from parliamentarians to party leaders should quit in case of their names were among the beneficiaries of offshore accounts.
By announcing establishment of judicial commission, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had presented himself and his family for accountability which was laudable, he added.
He said, "It is our responsibility to protect democracy against those who want to derail it through staging protests."
He hailed Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif for initiating process of accountability in Army.
Maulana Haidri said Panama Papers were mere allegations.
The opposition could raise any issue in the Parliament or agitate outside but hurling threats of sit-ins in front of homes was against political and ethical norms.
He said the JUI-F was part of the government but the party had raised issues of public importance. When the Punjab government had approved the legislation for protection of women's rights, the JUI-F raised voice against it and the government had listened to their point of view, he added.
He said whoever was involved in corruption should be held accountable and looted wealth be brought back to the country.
He said corruption should be eliminated by strengthening the country politically and economically.
To a question, the Senate Deputy Chairman said staging sit-ins was the right of any party, but the "Dharna" politics should not hurt the national interests.
He said that no hurdle should be tolerated in execution of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). India was trying to impede the CPEC as its agents were not only being caught but also admitting their involvement in anti-Pakistan activities. He said the JUI-F and some other parties had reservations on CPEC, which, however, stood resolved after the All Parties Conference (APC).
He said that JUI-F was more popular and stronger than Imran Khan's PTI but it wanted the democratic system to function. He said that if Imran Khan raised the slogan of change then he should do politics with sense of responsibility. Otherwise, he added, "Our coming generations will question what we contributed for Pakistan."
To another question about opposition's hue and cry, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri said it was strange that even those elements were talking about the Panama Papers who themselves had offshore accounts.
