imageGLASGOW: Dundee are considering the possibility of playing a Scottish Premiership match against Celtic in the United States, according to reports on Monday.

It is believed Dundee and Scottish champions Celtic have held talks about the prospect of playing a top-flight fixture in the USA, with Boston and Philadelphia mentioned as possible venues.

The BBC reported the only remaining requirement is the approval of the Scottish Professional Football League and a formal proposal is set to be put before the organisation in the next few weeks.

The SPFL said no club has made any application to play a game overseas at present.

"The SPFL board would require to sanction any move for a league game to be played overseas," an SPFL spokesman said.

"To date the SPFL has not received any application from any member club for any games to be played overseas."

Dundee have strong US links through Texas-based chairman Tim Keyes and American director of football operations John Nelms, who is based at Dens Park.

Celtic have played a number of friendlies in North America and have been looking into the feasibility of starting a franchise in the North American Soccer League.

Dundee are due to host the champions at Dens Park on December 30.
