imageISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League (N) Senator Lt. General (R) Abdul Qayum Khan has said that Pakistan is an agricultural country and our economy largely depends on agri sector.

Talking to Radio Pakistan, he said that government has announced a special package for the farmers of rupees Rs 341 billion and this package will bring agricultural revolution in the country.

He said this package is not a gift by the government, but it is the right of our farmers. Our government is fully committed to facilitate our farmers and agriculture sector.

He said a large population of Pakistan still makes its living with farming and we need to encourage them to continue this trend, so that we have abundant food supplies.

Pakistan Muslim League (N) MNA Tahira Orangzaib also said that the announcement of reduction in the fertilizer bags will increase production by farmers.

She said this is a huge package and it will benefit the farmers of the whole country and this project will develop the agriculture sector of the country.

"The agriculture sector is the backbone of our economy and this package will strengthen this sector. It is an historic package for the farmers by Prime Minister,"she added.

Economist Dr. Saboor Ghayur said the recently announced agriculture package for farmers is a laudable step of incumbent government.

He said it will specifically benefit the small farmers of the country who were previously suffering due to lack of support from the government. This project will provide relief to the farmers in several ways i.e. incentives, subsidies, reduction in taxes etc, he added.

He said the farmers can enhance their production by using this package as Pakistan has huge potential in livestock sector. Government should facilitate the small farmers and encourage them to start livestock business.

Government has also announced insurance for the farmers in this package, which will be helpful for farmers in uncertain situations or natural disasters, he added.
