imageISLAMABAD: Punjab Minister for Education, Youth and Sports, Archaeology and Tourism, Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan has stated that all out-of-school children in the province of Punjab will be enrolled by 2017.

The Provincial Minister was briefing the community members, educationists and media on education reforms in Punjab, setting up of Lahore Knowledge Park, and youth development initiatives in Punjab, at Pakistan High Commission London on Wednesday, according to a message received here from London on Thursday.

The Minister informed that Lahore Knowledge Park project had been envisaged as the engine for making Pakistan in general and the province of Punjab in particular the nodal point in South Asia for connectivity to the Global Knowledge Economy.

The Lahore Knowledge Park will be equipped with state of the art facilities and educational infrastructure, he said, adding the objective is to develop and create linkages and synergies between academia, research and the corporate world in the areas that feed into the local and global industry.

The minister also gave a detailed overview of youth development initiatives as well as tourism promotion activities being carried out under the leadership of the Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif.

Prior to this, High Commissioner Syed Ibne Abbas welcomed the Minister, academia, community and media to the High Commission.

Appreciating the initiatives undertaken by the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab, he said it was encouraging to see the projects like Lahore Knowledge Park which would complement the development agenda of the government.

He also appreciated the Minister's efforts in bringing revolutionary changes in the education sector and making Punjab the hub of knowledge economy.

It was informed that the British Council was supporting Punjab Higher Education Department to achieve its vision of promoting education through mutual collaborative activities, which can ultimately lead to the betterment of economic condition of the masses in the province.

British Council was providing technical support to Lahore Knowledge Park which included study tours to science parks in the UK as successful models, and bringing international experts to Pakistan to have policy dialogue which had given in-depth understanding of knowledge parks across the globe.

Walter Harriet, British educationist and an expert on innovation and research at the Cambridge University and a representative of British Council Pakistan also spoke on the occasion.
