imageISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday urged the government to gear up to counter any unfortunate incident as the monsoon showers have started.

The three-member bench headed by Justice Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Umar Ata Bandial resumed hearing of the case regarding implementation on the Flood Commission report.

During the course of proceedings, Deputy Attorney General Sohail Mahmood told the court that the federation has constituted a Federal Flood Commission Committee and officials from all concerned departments were included in the committee.

He said that a meeting of the committee was also held on yesterday (Wednesday).

He remarked that there was no need of any other committee in the presence of Flood Commission administration.

He remarked that the Flood Commission could be utilized after changing the composition of commission.

Justice Mian Saqib remarked that the flood commission was headed by Secretary Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and the mandate of the commission could be expanded with the changing in administration matters.

The Attorney General said that new committee members could also be included in the Flood Commission.

He said that implementation on 2010 flood report was necessary as it had endorsed by the apex court.

He said that it had been unanimously decided to take back the May 18, 2015 notification regarding formation of new committee and Flood Commission would be extended.

The AGP informed the court that a meeting would be held under the chairmanship of the Secretary WAPDA on July 13 to review flood relief arrangements.

He said that the report would be submitted before the bench.

The court directed extension of Federal Flood Commission committee and inclusion of representatives of Indus Water Commission, National Highway Authority (NHA) and Pakistan Railways along with others. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's Marvi Memon has been appointed as judicial aide for the matter.

Earlier during the hearing, Justice Nisar said that they pray catastrophic events like floods do not cause trouble this year but the government machinery should be ready to tackle any such situation. The hearing of the case was adjourned for indefinite period.
