imageKARACHI: Legspinners duo of Shahid Afridi and Yasir Shah can play crucial role in their important upcoming match against West Indies at Christchurch on February 21, legendary left arm spinner Iqbal Qasim said on Tuesday.

"Cricketers from the Caribbean Islands had always shown their traditional vulnerability against quality legspinners," he told APP in an interview here.

"Afridi and Yasir Shah can capitalize that weakness if they bowled smartly," he added.

"Remember Afridi bulldozed the West Indies batting in 2011 World Cup quarterfinals in Dhaka with four wickets haul," he recalled.

He said Yasir looked under pressure and excited and wasn't able to show good performance.

He hoped that Yasir Shah will flight the ball and come up some wicket-taking googlies and so will Afridi.

However at the same time, Iqbal Qasim warned Pakistan team to beware of West Indies flamboyant style because like Pakistan they are highly unpredictable and a dangerous team.

He said there are several players who were part of the West Indies team in 2011 World Cup and they can turn the table.

Pakistan will be entering the match with sore memories of their stunning defeat at Dhaka in 2014 ICC World T20 when they were bowled out for 86 last year.

He said after losing their opening ties, both teams will be battling to bounce back in the event.

Pakistan suffered 76 runs loss to arch-rival India in Adelaide while Ireland stunned West Indies at New Zealand city Nelson by four wickets.

He said West Indies have dangerous batsmen like Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmon, Bravo, Darren Sammy and Andre Russel could pose threat to Pakistan bowling.

"If our batsman showed form and spinners struck to the task they can beat West Indies," he said.

Former chief selector Iqbal Qasim said Pakistan batting is big worry for the coaching staff but they had the firepower to comeback.
