LISBON: Portugal's unemployment rate fell in December to 13.4 percent from 13.5 percent in November, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said on Thursday.
According to the new monthly unemployment data introduced by INE in October, the jobless rate has now resumed its downward trend after rising slightly in October and remaining unchanged in November.
In December 2013 unemployment stood at 15.2 percent.
The youth unemployment rate of those aged 15 to 24 rose to 34.5 percent in December from 33.4 percent in November.
The total number of unemployed stood at 694,400 people in December, INE said.
INE will release quarterly jobless statistics on Feb. 4.
