imageISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council Allama Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi on Saturday urged the United Nations (UN) to take notice of blasphemous sketches published by a French journal.

Talking to PTV, he said the UN should make an effective legislation on the issue, binding the member states for necessary measures to prevent occurrence of such incident in future.

He said there must be respect for all religions, faiths and sects, besides their sacred personalities, and no one could be allowed to hurt others' sentiments in the name of freedom of expression. "There is a dire need to prevent happening of such incident in future," he added.

Allama Ashrafi paid glowing tribute to late Saudi King Shah Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz saying that the great services rendered by him for the Ummah would long be remembered.

He said the deceased worked for the welfare of Muslims throughout his life and raised voice against suppression and injustice meted out to them in any part of the world.

Besides, the King made untiring efforts for greater unity among Muslims across the world, he added.

Meanwhile, renowned religious scholar Mufti Abdul Qavi underlined the need for avoiding violent protests against the blasphemous sketches.

He said Islam was the religion of peace, harmony and brotherhood and it emphasized to resolve problems sensibly and tactfully.

He said such sketches were intolerable for Muslims and the quarters concerned should take its immediate notice and ensure that no one could dare to do it in future.

Terming the sketches 'an attempt' to hurt sentiments of Muslims and instigate them for violent protests, he advised the faithful to register peaceful protests and fail nefarious designs of anti-Islam and anti-Pakistan elements.
