imageISLAMABAD: The country's trade deficit has expanded by 45.11 percent during the first quarter of fiscal year 2014-15 as exports decreased by 10.16 percent and imports increased by 12.01 percent as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, exports during July-September (2014-15) were recorded at $6.015 billion against $6.695 billion during July-September (2013-14).

Imports during the period under review were recorded at $12.519 billion against $11.177 billion during the corresponding period of last year.

The trade deficit during July-September (2014-15) was recorded at $6.504 billion against $4.482 billion in July-September (2013-14), showing negative growth of 45.11 percent.

Meanwhile, on year-on-year basis, the exports in September 2014 decreased by 16.66 percent to $2.181 billion as compared to $2.617 billion in September 2013.

On the other hand, the imports witnessed increase of 20.31 percent from $3.791 billion in September 2013 to $4.561 billion in September 2014.

On month-on-month basis, the exports in September 2014 increased by 14.13 percent as compared to $1.911 billion in August 2014.

The imports witnessed decrease of 3.33 percent in September 2014 as compared to $4.718 billion in August 2014.

Based on the figures, the deficit in September 2014 stood at $2.380 billion against $2.807 billion in August 2014, showing negative growth of 15.21 percent.
