imageISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments to file their replies on preparations of local body elections in the provinces within 15 days.

These orders were issued by a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk comprising Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed while hearing a case pertaining to legislation for local body polls.

During the course of hearing, the CJP enquired about the deadline given to Punjab and Sindh for legislation on LB polls and fresh delimitations.

The CJP expressed his displeasure on the KPK authorities for not holding the elections.

At which, Additional Attorney General of the KPK said that court in its orders had authorized Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to make new electoral boundaries that caused a delay in elections.

At which the court advised not to speculate things as the decision was for Punjab and Sindh only as the court verdict was not rightly interpreted.

If we are to agree with you, Balochistan elections would be declared null and void, court added.

Justice Ejaz Chaudhry said KPK government doesn't intend to hold elections. Additional Advocate General KPK said the draft for by-elections will be presented before the provincial cabinet session tomorrow.

Chief Justice said delaying tactics are being employed to conduct by-polls.

The Court issued notices to attorney generals of Punjab, Sindh and KPK to enquire about the steps taken to conduct by-polls in these three provinces and file respective replies of provincial governments within 15 days.
