imageLOWER DIR: The Pakistan People's Party will strongly oppose destabilization of democracy and would come in way of elements trying to derail democratic system, PPP leader and former State Minister Malik Azmat Khan said on Friday.

Talking to APP, Malik Azmat Khan said PPP leadership Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Shaheed and Benazir Bhutto Shaheed had sacrificed their lives for democracy and we would not allow anyone to destabilize this system.

He said unconstitutional steps to topple the elected Government would also be opposed, adding PPP support democracy and not an individual.

He said peaceful protest was the democratic right of every political party and should be facilitated.

He said people and his party will not support that long marches and sit in which remain violent and disturb law and order situation.

In the present geo political situation, he said, the country cannot afford long marches and politics of sit in and it is high time to show unity to address the key challenges and issues faced by the country today.

In the past, we have seen that protest long marches and sit in had served no purpose but harmed democracy and lead to political instability and anarchy.

He suggested Imran Khan to postpone long march and adopt constitutional path for resolution of grievances.

It would be far better if Imran Khan and his team focus on the development and improvement of law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where his party is in power. He said the KP was confronted with a number of issues and this can only be addressed through adaptation of concrete policies and its implementations.

He said undemocratic forces can take advantage from the current political standoff and whole responsibility would be on Imran Khan and Dr Tahirul Qadri if democracy derailed.

Malik Azmat said consultation of the Prime Minister with national political leadership on the current political situation was appreciated by democratic forces and people.

He said it would be better if the current political standoff between PMLN and PTI solved with dialogue.
