ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar has lauded the contribution of Rotary Club in eradication of polio from the country.
Addressing the participants of Rotary Club Islamabad Metropolitan Installation Ceremony for the Rotary Year 2014-15, the minister said that successful implementation of any program or public-private partnership is mandatory and the government and Rotary's partnership in immunization and eradication of polio is best example of this.
She appreciated the Rotarians who have established health camps and EPI centres in many districts. She appealed them to start work for IDPs who have left their homes and living in an extremely challenging condition.
The minister said that this is the high time to strengthen EPI system of the country as weak and poor immunization is the main cause and contributor of spread of poliovirus in the country. "Whenever there is poor immunization coverage, there is fear of rise in polio and measles outbreaks."
She asked the Rotarians to extend support in strengthening immunization program in the country.
She said that today with 90 reported polio cases and thousands of measles cases around the country is an alarm to redouble efforts to strengthen immunization system of the country.
She said that today's era is technology era and use of telecommunication to raise awareness about EPI is one of the areas that need to be focused."There is no end to innovations and we need to develop innovative techniques and methodologies to improve the performance of our systems."
