imageKARACHI: According to the latest reports, Bollywood hunk John Abraham has sent a letter to Jayanthi Natarajan, the Minister of Environment of Forests, on behalf of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) urging her to ban the use of animals in circuses around India.

The 40-year-old actor, who has a very soft heart when it comes to animals, reportedly pointed out the cruelty they face in circuses. The animals are badly beaten and forced to perform unnatural and confusing tricks against their will.

Moreover, he mentioned that the poor animals are forced to do things such as riding bicycles, standing on their head or jumping through rings of fire. Animals have severely restricted access to food, water and veterinary care even when they are not performing. Dogs are crammed and are rarely let out and kept in dirty cages, and birds are confined to small cages so that they cannot fly. Elephants are kept chained by their legs while horses are kept tethered on short ropes.

Stuff like whips, clubs, hooks and other weapons including ankuses, which are heavy steel-tipped rods are often used to inflict pain on elephants and other animals in order to entertain the public.

The government of India has reportedly banned the use of bears, monkeys, tigers, panthers, lions and bulls in performances.

John has been given the title of ambassador of PETA India’s campaign to fight against circus cruelty.

In recent news, the actor has reportedly charged 150 million rupees to star in Anees Bazmee’s “Welcome” sequel.
