The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Pakistan is doubling after every two weeks, revealed the head of Digital Pakistan Tania Airdus on Tuesday.

“Comparison of a global COVID-19 growth trend with indication of when restrictions were imposed,” said Airdus, while sharing coronavirus growth trends on social media. “Confirmed cases in Pakistan are doubling roughly every two weeks,” she added.

Aidrus shared two data trends prepared in collaboration with Love For Data and Digital Pakistan, one such trend showed COVID-19 global growth trend. “Pakistan moved swiftly as compared to other countries in dealing with COVID-19. The measures by Pakistan, although harsh, were critical in order to prevent the virus from spreading quickly. It prevented the number of cases from getting unmanageably high,” stated the data.

Meanwhile, another trend showed Pakistan's daily growth rate in the number of cases. “Initially, Pakistan had a fairly high growth rate, especially during the week 15 March till 22 March. However, the rate dropped significantly over the past 2 weeks owing to the well implemented lockdown.”

“The imposed lockdown averted the much anticipated increase owing to the 14-day infection cycle of the virus,” the data showed.

Earlier, Airdus informed that the Pakistani government has joined hands with a predictive analytics startup Love For Data, which would help authorities, make “data-driven decisions” in its combat against the coronavirus.
