  • US senators have urged President Donald Trump to facilitate an end to the current humanitarian crisis in IoK.
  • "We ask that you call upon PM Modi to fully restore telecommunications and internet services in IoK," the senator urged.
  • The senators also hoped that Trump will play a constructive role in helping resolve issue between Pakistan and India.

US senators have written to President Donald Trump asking him facilitate and urge Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to end the current humanitarian crisis in occupied Kashmir (IoK).

In the letter, Senators Todd Young, Chris Van Hollen, Benjamin L Cardin and Lindsey Graham have expressed their concern towards the current situation in IoK. "With each passing day, the situation for the people of Kashmir becomes increasingly difficult," the letter reads.

They have urged Trump to immediately intervene to help end the 'humanitarian crisis' in the region. The senators have urged the US president to put pressure on Modi to lift curfews and restore telecommunications services in the territory.

“The United States has a vital role to play in facilitating a resolution to this humanitarian crisis, and we urge you to act swiftly. Once the urgent humanitarian situation has been addressed, we hope the US can play a constructive role in helping resolve the underlying disputes between the two nuclear powers, India and Pakistan," the Senators wrote in the letter.

Since India unilaterally revoked Article 370 of its constitution, which afforded autonomy to the state of IoK, the region has been blocked out of the rest world for over a month.
