Defence minister’s nuclear statement reminder of India’s thirst for violence: FM

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Saturday that Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh statement that they might change their ‘no first use’ nuclear policy is a reminder of the neighbour's 'unbridled thirst for violence'.

The FM took to his official Twitter handle and wrote that the statement by the Indian defence is contrary to Pakistan's aggressive efforts to galvanise diplomacy. The foreign minister further said that history reminds fascist warmongering state can never win.

Similarly, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan also tweeted and wrote that the statement of Singh is a threat to the entire world. She also said that the international community will have to take notice of this statement, which is an open challenge for the international laws and world peace.

On Friday, the Indian defence minister had said that although India has a ‘no first use policy’ on nuclear weapons it may change in the future depending on the circumstances. His statement comes at a time when tensions between Pakistan and India have soared high following the stripping of the Indian occupied Kashmir’s (IoK) autonomy.
