Denying that his team had any connection to cocaine recovered from a Brazilian Air Force plane bound for Japan, President Jair Bolsonaro promised strict action against the perpetrator found with the narcotics.

On Wednesday, a Brazilian air force officer, who was travelling with the president's G20 team bound for the G-20 summit in Japan, was arrested after being caught with 39 kilograms of cocaine by Spanish police during a stopover. international media reported. The officer had been assigned to accompany Bolsonaro in his trip to Japan.

However, Bolsonaro was travelling on a separate plane. Later on in a tweet the president said that he had been informed of the arrest by the defense minister and has ordered immediate cooperation with Spanish police.

"There are around 300,000 men and women in the armed forces who are trained to uphold the highest principles of ethics and morality. If the airman is found to have committed a crime, he will be tried and convicted according to the law,"the president further said.

Leaders from around the world are gathered in Osaka as Japan hosts its first G20 summit.
