ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi Wednesday called for pursuing development agenda to reinvigorate education which was imperative for national progress and prosperity.

Addressing at convocation of COMSATS University, he stressed for industry-driven education so that fresh graduate could become integral part of national contributing organizations.

The president reiterated government’s commitment for providing employment and business opportunities since it was state’s responsibility to offer favorable environment for business and investment in the country.

Dr Arif Alvi urged students to strive for unlocking new avenues of business and employment opportunities through the academic knowledge they had acquired during their studies.

He further asked students to put their energies and knowledge for social betterment and human development which would eventually yield collective outcome in the form of prosperity.

“Assisting others is moral and religious duty for every individual which will, in return, bring benefit for you as well” he said while motivating young graduates to contribute for human welfare.

He said education did build character and provided leadership qualities, for which the graduating students ought to prove their skills in their relevant fields.

The president noted that proper utilization of resources was a key to countries' development. "Those countries which have not utilized their resources, did remain undeveloped", he added.

He called for enhancing research and development while pondering the ways and means to best exploit available resources.

The president said Pakistan had emerged as a resilient nation and had specific characteristics to perform a leading role. He said the nation had demonstrated leadership spirit during natural and man- made calamities in the past.

He said Pakistan had been hosting 3.5 million Afghan refugees with a unanimous national resolve of hospitality. "Pakistan has embraced them open-heartedly at the time when other nations are closing their doors for migrants" he said, adding Pakistani nation did it as a gesture of Muslim brotherhood.

He further said Pakistan had become a mature nation with experiences and tackling of multi-faceted challenges including economic, peace and security issues during the last few decades. The nation has curbed the menace of extremism with courage and resolve, he added.

The president said that Pakistan has responded to the recent Indian aggression in a very responsible manner which reflected country’s peace affection.

He said that contrary to Pakistan’s efforts for eliminating fanaticism, India was somehow promoting extremism in the region and expressed distress over Indian attitude.

He assured the audience that after countering tough domestic problems, Pakistan was now moving towards stability.

Congratulating parents and teachers, he said the graduating day was equally a rejoicing moment for those who had improved skills of students as well as for parents who brought up them to the success.

He also lauded valuable contribution by COMSATS University by ensuring quality high education in sciences and technologies.

The president awarded medals and merit certificates among position holders, and conferred degrees to graduating students.
