KARACHI: Citizens in general faced great difficulties in resuming their daily routine on Wednesday due to low pressure closely followed by disrupted gas supplied to their homes.

Closure of CNG stations scattered across the metropolis further emerged as a major challenge for many facing grave difficulties in reaching their work place or attending other essential responsibilities.

Sui Souther Gas Company (SSGC) had announced on Wednesday that consequent to constant decline in the pressure of gas supply from different gas fields it may not be in a position to sustain its services to the optimum.

It was maintained that CNG stations in the metropolis have been directed to suspend their service as fuel may not be readily available to meet the requirements of CNG-run vehicles.

Supply to the domestic as well as industrial consumers is being continued on priority basis to avert inconvenience to households and loss to national economy, claimed the SSGC spokesman, dispelling that any gas load-shedding may be scheduled for domestic consumers.

People, however, complained extremely low pressure in the natural gas available at their homes making breakfast and meal preparation extremely difficult.

Roadside hotels and stalls were also of little help as they were also faced with the same situation hence in little position to meet the needs of growing numbers reaching them for parathas, rotis and tea.      Bakeries and confectioneries could make the day as people preferred to purchase bread slices, butter, sandwiches and even biscuits.

The SSGC official, acknowledging that difficulties may have been faced in certain areas of Karachi, said all efforts are being made to ease the difficulties of the people.    Many of the industrial units operational in SITE area have also reported gas shortage turning function of their factories minimal almost throughout the day.

Stakeholders have urged the provincial as well as federal governments to take urgent stock of the situation and ensure that situation may not get aggravated at the expense of masses.
