ISLAMABAD: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has  called upon the government to allocate at least five per cent of the budget for education, adopt Urdu as official language and restore the students unions.

Addressing a mega Education expo organized by the Islami Jamiat e Talaba, in Islamabad, he said that “made in Pakistan” leadership could be produced only through the students unions. The Islami JIJT chief Muhammad A’mar and provincial chief Saad bin Haroon, also spoke on the occasion.

He also demanded that after restoration, the Students Unions be given representation in the Senate and the Syndicate of the universities.

Sirajul Haq said that he would have saluted Prime Minister Imran Khan if  his 100 days plan had included a programme for the education of nearly 25 million children presently out of schools.

He said the country needed Islamic scholars, not artists and actors. He said the Islamic scholars like Imam Malik, Imam Ghazali and others, could properly lead the countrymen in every field.

The JI chief that the children of none of the ministers or the Prime Minister were studying at the government schools and colleges and this indicated the rulers interest in education. Similarly, he said no body was interested in uniform education.

He said there was no dearth of talent in the country but the ruling elite did not want the wards of the common man to get good education and become a leader. He said the very first message of Islam was about education or reading but the government in the country had handed over this vital field to NGOs. He said that only an insignificant amount of point three per cent of the budget was allocated for research.

The JI chief called upon the government to ensure true implementation of the article62 and 63 of the constitution.

Sirajul Haq said that the rulers were now talking of mid-term elections but added that this was not the solution of the prevailing situation.

The JI chief deplored the government’s failure to trace the assassins of  Maulana Samilu Haq and SP Tahir Dawar.

Sirajul Haq commended the activities of the Islami Jamiat e Talaba in the field of education and related fields.
