Finance Minister Asad Umar on Saturday has answered to former Governor Sindh Mohammad Zubair, who happened to be his brother on his tweet demanding cut in taxes on petroleum products.

?"I am sure one of his 1st acts would be [to] cut down the taxes on petrol that he had been demanding while in opposition," Zubair had said on August 07 with a screenshot of finance minister's February 2016 tweet.

To which the PTI leader responded on social media,“Incidence of tax on petrol in the prices effective today is 23.6%, less than half the tax rate of 52% which I had criticized. PML-N govt had Rs.300 billion as petrol levy in budget for this year. Wait for my strategy to be presented to parliament and you will see the difference.”

The statement comes after the federal government on Friday reduced the prices of all petroleum products for the month of September.

Finance Division notified the new prices of petroleum products with effect from 1st September to the end of September. The government reduced the price of MS petrol by Rs 2.41 per litre to Rs 92.83 per litre from Rs 95.24 per litre and High Speed Diesel (HSD) by Rs 6.38 per litre to Rs 106.57 from Rs 112.94 per litre.

The government also reduced the price of kerosene oil by 46 paisas per litre from Rs 83.96 to Rs 83.50 per litre and light diesel oil (LDO) price by 0.59 paisas to Rs 75.37 per litre from Rs 75.96 per litre.
