ISLAMABAD: As Pakistan goes to polls on July 25, services of noted poets, DJs and singers are being hired by nationalist and liberal political parties for running their election campaign to excite the supporters has become much of a trend nowadays in country.
A report aired by a private news channel said , Pakistani political rallies have been transformed in recent years to festive blowouts, designed to entertain as much as inspire supporters to vote.
Political parties in Pakistan have used music as a way of spreading slogans and unifying supporters since the rise of pop music in the late 1980s, following the end of a military dictatorship.
Experts also believe the new trend would boost local music market.
The music studios in country are busy these days in recording poetic pieces promoting election agenda, political slogans, manifestoes and tribute to party leaders of political parties in the voices of noted singers, said a renowned Singer said.
The trend that has taken the political world by storm has greatly benefited musicians and poets alike who are hired to compose musical pieces in order to attract as many people as possible. Whether they are politically inclined towards the party or not, the musicians sometimes still opt to compose the music just to earn extra cash, he added.
Such political gatherings and meetings, however, can never be complete without songs and anthems that keep the supporters and workers entertained as they listen to their leader’s address side by side, said a Young Girl Nida Noman.
Besides party songs, the slogans also play a key role to motivate the voters as it reflects the vision of a party. From the PPP’s ‘Roti, Kapra or Makaan’ to MQM’s Mayor to Apna Hona Chahiye’, the slogans helped the political parties to get their candidates elected.
Bilawal is a young gun and is the only hope for the prosperous Pakistan, said an enthusiastic PPP activist Mohammad Imran, who was dancing on the tunes of PPP election song- Bilawal Bilawal- outside the party election camp.
“I love the new sound. I have never done this before. It was amazing playing with 'Bugge Wesseltoft' who could read every note in my thoughts while I sang,” said Ms Sani, who charmed the audience with her rendition of the folk song 'Khari Neem ke Neechay'.
This new trend gives a huge opportunity to musicians as well as DJs to earn more during the electoral season, said a citizen, Javed Luqman.
