ANP leader Daud Achakzai shot, injured in Balochistan

Another Awami National Party (ANP) leader was injured on Monday in yet another attack on one of the party

Another Awami National Party (ANP) leader was injured on Monday in yet another attack on one of the party leaders, as unidentified armed men opened fire at him at a guest house in Balochistan.

ANP former senator Daud Achakzai received bullets on his right arm, after unknown persons opened fire on the guest house in Qilla Abdullah, where he was staying at. He was taken to a Civil hospital where he was shifted to the trauma centre. His condition, however, is stable now and he is out of danger, local media reported.

The attackers managed to flee after the attack. The site of the incident has been cordoned off by the police while a search operation is under way.

This is the forth attack in last eight days that was targeted at electoral candidates and rallies. Three suicide bomb blasts took place in last week. Two of these blasts occurred on Friday – one in Bannu, Peshawar and the other in Mastung, Baluchistan.

The blast in Bannu killed four and injured more than 25 people. The blast was targeted at the convoy of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal leader Akram Khan Durrani, however, he remained unhurt in the blast.

In another similar attack on Friday evening, a blast ripped through the convoy of Balochistan Awami Party candidate Siraj Raisani, in which he and 127 others were killed while as many as 150 people were injured. The Islamic State claimed the responsibility of the attack.

The first blast took place last week in Peshawar, which took the life of ANP's candidate Haroon Ahmad Bilour and 20 others. The blast also injured 66 people who were present for the party’s corner meeting.
