If you are an insect hater and have to cover yourself with insect-repelling sprays then there is an easier way for you. With these usual household plants, you can easily keep insects away including mosquitoes, moths, flies, spiders and other kinds of bugs.

Mother Nature Network describes few plants that can keep away the insects at your home.

  1. Basil

Basil is a common household plant that is a good source for keeping away house flies and mosquitoes. Basil is used in many recipes to improve the flavor. Fresh basil could also be used to make an insect repellent spray.

  1. Lavender

Apart from adding beauty to your house, lavender is also a source for repelling moths, fleas, mosquitoes and flies. The plant’s sweet fragrance is used in homes and clothes drawer. Where people love its fragrance, bugs hate it.

  1. Lemongrass

Lemongrass a very common household plant and a good source for keeping away those irritating mosquitoes. A natural oil Citronella is found in the plant that is also used in insect-repelling sprays.

  1. Mint

Because of its ability to spread aggressively, mint is best grown in pots. The plant is a good mosquito repellent. Apart from acting as a bug repeller, mint is also used in many recipes including tea, mostly for its aroma.

  1. Rosemary

The household plant Rosemary keeps numerous vegetable-plant harming bugs and mosquitoes away. Rosemary and its oil is also used in many dishes.

  1. Marigold

Another household plant Marigold is disliked by mosquitoes, aphids and even rabbits. The unique smell produced by the plant keeps away bugs and those worms that feed on the vegetables produced at home.

  1. Catnip

Although Catnip attracts cats, it easily repels termites, mosquitoes and cockroaches.

Other than these plants, there are also few plants such as thyme, parsley and oregano that apart from being used in cooking, also repel bugs such as beetles, worms, flies and pests.
