imageLAHORE: Punjab government Spokesman Syed Zaeem Hussain Qadri said on Saturday that overall law and order situation in 12 districts of Punjab during local bodies elections remained peaceful.

Addressing a press conference, he said that except one or two minor scuffle cases no big incident took place with the grace of Almighty Allah.

Zaeem said that no casualty was reported in Punjab during the LB polls but the situation in other provinces was not same.

He said that not a single bullet was fired in all 12 districts of Punjab, due to zero tolerance policy of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

In 8 districts of Sindh, about 4 to 11 people lost their lives during LG elections, he added.

He further said that 24 people had lost their lives during local government polls in Kyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).

The Punjab government spokesman said that in Punjab 27 people got injured while 20 received minor injuries during LB elections.

In Punjab, he said, during LG polls 34 cases were registered without any discrimination on violation of law besides arresting 107 persons.

He said that among the arrested persons 23 were supporters of PML-N, 10 of PPP, 16 independent, 20 of PTI and others.

He said that according to unbiased observers in KPK during the LB polls, the polling process had been stopped for 106 times and the ratio of violation of electoral code of conduct was 15 percent.

According to The Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) with the support of government the influentials occupied polling stations in 5 to 26 percent of incidents in Malakand, DI Khan, Abottabad, Mardan, Nowshera, Lucky Marwat, Bannu, Peshawar and Haripur.

He said that in Punjab, not a single woman was stopped from casting vote but in KPK 80 such cases had been reported.

Zaeem said that no authentic rigging report was reported in 12 districts of Punjab during LG polls while the rigging proportion during LG elections in KPK was 26 percent according to FAFEN.

He said that in Punjab the polling started at 7:30 am but in KPK polling was not started in time on 13 percent of polling stations.

Syed Zaeem Hussain Qadri further said that strict ban had been imposed on ariel firing, display of weapons and on raising disrespectful slogans against rivals during victory celebrations while stern action would be taken against the violaters.

To a question, he said that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif used his fundamental right of casting vote and he also strengthened democratic process through this practice.

To another query, he said that those who criticize have no solid arguments adding that Punjab police performed its duty efficiently without any pressure.
