imageISLAMABAD: The lawmakers in Upper House on Friday continued debate for 2nd day on the performance of interior ministry and urged the other ministers to present performance of their respective ministries to make them accountable before this august forum.

Resuming debate, Ayesha Sayed of JI expressed satisfaction over the performance of the Ministry of Interior and said that the interior minister set a good precedent in the parliamentary history by making himself accountable to the Parliament.

She said that it would help improve further the performance of the interior ministry.

She said that unfortunately major chunk of the budget was being spent on security, although it should have been provided for welfare of the masses.

Regarding National Action Plan (NAP), she said that although the 20-point agenda was devised with the consensus of all political parties to bring peace in the country, however, it still needs implementation in letter and spirit.

She also called for ending of economic terrorism besides implementing a uniform education system in the country.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed of Awami Muslim League while taking part in the debate said that ordinary people were not involved in terrorism. The mode of terrorism has significantly changed, he said and added that well educated people were involved in this menace.

He said that Nisar Ali Khan set a good example for presenting his ministry report in the house.

He said that recruitment in police should be made purely on merit to make it a vibrant force.

He said that Rangers has done good job to bring peace and tranquillity in Karachi and urged for resolving the issue of rangers' power as soon as possible.

Sheikh Rashid said China-Pakistan Economic Corridor would usher new era of prosperity, however, the reservation of small provinces should be addressed.

Taking part in the debate Shahjee Gul Afridi of FATA said that the interior minister presented himself before the public court which was a good example as it would help the masses.

He said that all things including development and progress are directly linked with maintenance of peace in the country.

He said that Pakistan shares vast boarder with Afghanistan and around 20,000 Afghans people daily cross it, adding that the movement of Afghans people should be legalized.

Citing reference of a meeting, Shahjee Gul said that as many as 1.5 million Afghan refugees were registered and same number were still unregistered. He said that all unregistered refugees should be registered as no registered Afghan refugees were found involved in crimes.

He said the FATA people have rendered supreme sacrifices in war against terror and FATA should be brought into mainstream like other areas of the country.

He said the FATA people should also be given their due rights and power like other citizen enjoy. The President could do this through a single notification under Article 247 of the Constitution, he said.

He also called for setting up FATA regiment in Pak Army like the other provinces.

He also requested the Interior minister to set up passport offices in FATA areas where it did not exist.

Iftikhar uddin of All Pakistan Muslim League lauded the interior minister for presenting the performance in the house.

He said that the other ministers should also presented performance of their ministries.

He said that Chitral is the largest district of KPK but the NADRA offices working there were under staff.

Number of female staff in the NADRA offices must be increased to reduce hardship of the people, he said.

He said that more NADRA office and mobile teams should be set up in the district.

Talal Chaudhary of PML-N said that the interior minister dispel the impression of mismanagement and corruption in NADRA, Passports office and FIA etc by presenting 19 pages performance report.

He said that the Interior Minister has also ended VIP culture for the first in the country history.

He said that putwari system record of Islamabad would be online to help eradicate corruption.

He said that as many as 50,000 people were removed from the Exit Control List during the last two and half hears. He said ToRs have also been devised so that to ensure that no innocent person is included in the list.

He said that the Interior Minister did not accept international pressure regarding registration of international NGOs, as data of all of these have been collected within six months which was followed by re-registration process.

He said that the minister also played vital role in Karachi operation which helped end abduction for ransom culture.
